AREAREA BY GAUGUIN
Über das Motiv
A composition steeped in tropical calm and sensual silence straight out of Polynesian legends. Two women sit in the shade of lush greenery — one in a blue skirt, the other wrapped in white cloth — their gestures expressing an intimate, carefree conversation. In the depth, a third figure dances, and in the foreground a pink pig bends toward the ground, creating a surreal, almost magical accent. Gauguin builds the world using intense, flat patches of color — deep green, warm brown, and ruby red — which together create the atmosphere of a paradise frozen in time.
